Devadanam Talapati

Devadanam completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science and taught mathematics and science to high school students at St Paul’s School. Later, he joined the Deshpande Fellowship Program and successfully completed his training under the guidance of Mr. Naveen Jha. Soon after his fellowship training, he joined Haath Mein Sehat in 2009 as a Project Manager primarily responsible for creating integral partnerships with several colleges in the Sandbox Area. Devadanam was the only full-time staff member in Hubli for nearly two years and managed all aspects of on-the-ground operations. Now, as HMS’ Director, Devadanam is focused on expanding the scope and reach of the organization.
Sudharm Basapur
Project Manager | Hubli, India
Sudharm completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology and later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He quickly progressed through various HMS positions, starting as a college volunteer for the Healthy Schools Education Program, then becoming the HMS student leader at his college, and finally working as an HMS Intern. Soon after his graduation from the College of Education in 2011, Sudharm joined HMS as a Project Manager. He fully dedicates himself to ensuring HMS’ impact in schools and guiding the energy and enthusiasm of HMS’ college volunteers.

Jin Liu
Development Assistant | San Francisco, United States
Jin recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Business Administration, and a minor in Global Poverty & Practice. Her interests in strategy, human-centered design, and public service has led her to a range of consumer-focused projects. Her experiences include: marketing a renewable energy certification, expanding membership of a non-profit journal syndicate, and managing HMS’ hand-washing education program in Mumbai. She firmly believes that people should be the focus of an effective organization and currently helps develop HMS’ approach to youth-centric impact.

Jasmine Wang
Program Assistant | Berkeley, United States
Jasmine is currently a senior at UC Berkeley pursuing dual degrees in English Literature and Molecular Cell Biology. Drawn to HMS for its interdisciplinary approach to health disparities, Jasmine has worked extensively on managing HMS’ hygiene education programs and on piloting soap and hand sanitizer distribution as a complementary initiative. Understanding that an organization’s strength is directly related to its human resources, Jasmine now contributes to developing HMS’ present and future projects as platforms for youth engagement.

Lisa Veliz
Media & Communications Assistant | Oakland, United States
Lisa recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a minor in Global Poverty & Practice. Lisa is interested in the intersections between infrastructure, health, and communities. She has conducted water quality research in Mumbai, and is currently managing HMS’ media-specific efforts. Lisa will pursue a Master’s in Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2012 in order to more substantially contribute to the WASH development sector.

Gurpreet Singh
Administrative & Operations Assistant | Sacramento, United States
Gurpreet recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology, and a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. He has primarily worked on HMS’ hygiene education program, focusing on curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Gurpreet currently provides support to HMS in multiple areas, particularly with accounting, web development, project management, and more.
